Alabama

Alabama is an American country music band formed in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969. The group was founded by cousins Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook. They originally performed under the names Young Country and Wildcountry before changing their name to Alabama in 1977. The band is known for a sound that blends traditional country with rock, pop, and bluegrass influences. The members grew up in families where faith and church music were significant influences. While Alabama is primarily a mainstream country act, they have periodically released albums dedicated to gospel and inspirational music. Their catalog includes the albums *Songs of Inspiration* (2006), *Songs of Inspiration II* (2007), and *Angels Among Us: Hymns & Gospel Favorites* (2014). Songs from these projects include "Angels Among Us," "Because He Lives," "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," "I Saw The Light," "Church In The Wildwood," and "The Old Rugged Cross." The band disbanded in 2004 and reunited in 2010.
