About Alison Krauss
Alison Maria Krauss was born on July 23, 1971, in Decatur, Illinois, and is an American singer, fiddler, and music producer. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. In 1989, she joined the band Union Station and has performed with them throughout her career. Her musical style encompasses bluegrass, country, folk, and pop.
Krauss has recorded several notable albums, including the 2007 collaboration with Robert Plant, *Raising Sand*, the 2011 Union Station album *Paper Airplane*, the 2017 solo project *Windy City*, and the 2025 Union Station album *Arcadia*. She also contributed to the *O Brother, Where Art Thou?* soundtrack, which features her recordings of "Down to the River to Pray" and "I'll Fly Away."
In 1994, Krauss released *I Know Who Holds Tomorrow*, an album with The Cox Family that includes the track "I'd Rather Have Jesus." The album won the Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album. Over the course of her career, Krauss has won 27 Grammy Awards. She received the National Medal of Arts in 2019 and was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2021.
