About Bishop James Morton

Bishop James Harold Morton (1946–2023) was a gospel musician, singer, and pastor. He was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Bishop C.L. Morton, Sr. and Evangelist Matilda Morton. He served as a minister of music and music director for the late Rev. C.L. Franklin. He began preaching in 1968 at Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Detroit, Michigan. In 1993, he founded the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. Throughout his ministry, Bishop Morton collaborated with gospel artists including Aretha Franklin, Rev. James Cleveland, Bishop Paul S. Morton, and William Murphy, III. His vocal contributions appear on the William Murphy recording "Everlasting God." He also released the live album "With My Whole Heart" with the New Beginning FGBC Mass Choir. His recorded performances include hymns such as "Beams of Heaven" and "Amazing Grace," as well as the song "Something Good."
