Brian Doerksen

Brian Robert Doerksen was born in 1965 in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, and was raised in a Christian home with a Mennonite cultural background. He is a Canadian singer-songwriter, recording artist, and speaker who has taught extensively on worship leading. In his early twenties, he served as a worship pastor at the Langley Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Doerksen lived in the United Kingdom for over two years in the late 1990s, where he mentored worship leaders and produced the album *Hungry*. His songs have become widely used in congregational worship. His catalog includes "Refiner's Fire" (1990), "Light the Fire Again" (1994), "Come Now is the Time to Worship" (1998), "Faithful One" (2002), and "Hope of the Nations" (2003). He also released the albums *You Shine* (2002), *Today* (2004), and *Holy God* (2007). Doerksen’s work has been recognized with several honors. He received the "International Award" from the Gospel Music Association in 2003. In 2007, he received six Covenant Awards from Canada's Gospel Music Association, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. The following year, he received a JUNO Award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year for *Holy God* in 2008. Beyond his music, Doerksen is the founder of the songwriting instruction platform "Unlocking Your Songs." He is also the author of the book *Make Love, Make War (Now Is The Time To Worship)*, published in 2009. He and his wife, Joyce, have six children, including two sons with Fragile X Syndrome.
