About Bruz Newton
Bruz Newton is a Kenyan choreographer and musician who rose to prominence in 2016 following the release of the song "Bazokizo," a collaboration with Collo. His music, including the track "Zigwembe," was widely adopted as an anthem within Kenyan church youth ministries, and he performed at various Christian events, including youth conferences and keshas. He was also the first Kenyan artist to sign with the international label Black Market Records.
In 2019, Newton stepped away from the gospel music industry following experiences he described as a "devaluing" system within the ministry. He has publicly discussed the challenges of his career, including legal disputes over music rights and personal hardships. His catalog includes songs such as "Witinesi," "Wacha Aende," and "Sukuma."
In 2025, Newton regained the rights to some of his earlier music, including "Zigwembe," marking a significant step in reclaiming his artistic independence.
