About Buddy Greene
Buddy Greene is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player known for his work in gospel music. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, he began his professional career as a member of country artist Jerry Reed’s band before moving to Nashville in 1984 to further his work as a musician and songwriter. His music often blends gospel with country, bluegrass, folk, and blues influences.
Greene is widely known for co-writing the modern Christmas classic “Mary, Did You Know?” with Mark Lowry. His songwriting catalog also includes songs such as “Be Ye Glad” and “I Don’t Belong (Sojourner’s Song).” He has released over 20 recording projects throughout his career, including the albums *Sojourner’s Song*, *Praise Harmonica*, *RUFUS*, and *Looking Back*.
Greene has a long-standing professional association with Bill and Gloria Gaither, frequently appearing on their Homecoming video series. In 1991, he won the Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Best Country Album for *Sojourner’s Song* and has received nine additional GMA Dove Award nominations. His compilation *The Best of Buddy Greene: From the Homecoming Series* peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in 2011.
