About Chevelle Franklyn

Chevelle Jasintha Franklyn was born on March 4, 1974, in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She began her music career as a teenager, recording her first single "Here I Am" at age 14. During her early years in the music industry, she worked in a secular reggae context, collaborating with artists such as Shabba Ranks and Beenie Man. In 1998, Franklyn publicly announced her conversion to Christianity during a live concert. Following this decision, she transitioned exclusively to recording and performing gospel music, developing a style frequently described as gospel reggae. Her catalog of albums includes *Joy*, *Set Time*, *His Way*, and *Shake It Off*. Franklyn has collaborated with a number of prominent gospel artists, including Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, and Micah Stampley. Among her recorded songs are "No Foreign God," "I Have A Father" featuring Donnie McClurkin, "We Will Sing," and "Go in Your Strength." She has also performed at major international gospel events, including "The Experience" in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2002, she won five Caribbean Gospel Reggae Marlin Awards.
