Common Hymnal

Common Hymnal is a collective of Christian songwriters, artists, and activists that functions as a virtual library of songs, stories, and ideas. Originating from what the group describes as a "spiritual underground," the collective focuses on themes of worship, justice, lament, hope, and theological imagination. It serves as a community for songwriters and artists who often feel marginalized by mainstream Christian religious and cultural systems. The collective is stewarded by the parent nonprofit, Common People, while Common Exchange serves as the label and distribution arm for its catalog. Common Hymnal is not a fixed group of artists but a network that facilitates collaboration among various songwriters and musicians. The collective's work is characterized by a "praise and protest" ethos, aiming to integrate worship with social conscience. The catalog of Common Hymnal includes songs such as "He Has Time," "The Kingdom Is Yours," "God of Color," "Rise Up," "I Wonder," "With You," and "Peace, My Mind." The collective also released an album titled *Praise and Protest*.
