About Daddy Owen

Daddy Owen, born Owen Mwatia on January 29, 1982, in Kakamega, Kenya, is a prominent Kenyan contemporary Christian music artist and songwriter. He is a member of the Kenya Assemblies of God Church in Buru Buru, Nairobi, and is the brother of fellow Kenyan gospel musician Rufftone. Signed to the Beats & Blessings music label, Owen is known for pioneering a style of music often referred to as "Gospel Kapungala," which blends urban beats with inspirational lyrics. His catalog includes songs such as "Kazi Ya Msalaba" featuring Danny Gift, "System ya Kapungala," "Mbona," "Tobina," "Wewe Ni Mungu" featuring Rigan Sarkozi, "Vanity," and "Follow." He also released the album "Haijalishi." Owen’s achievements include receiving the 2013 MTV Africa Music Award for Best Anglophone Artist and winning multiple Groove Awards for Male Artist of the Year between 2009 and 2011. Beyond music, he founded the Malaika Disability Foundation in 2013 to support empowerment and inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
