Don Williams

Don Williams (1939–2017) was an American country music singer, songwriter, and actor. Known by the nickname "The Gentle Giant" for his smooth bass-baritone voice and calm stage presence, he launched his solo country music career in 1971 after beginning his career in the 1960s as a member of the folk-pop trio the Pozo-Seco Singers. Over the course of his career, Williams achieved 17 number-one country hits. His catalog includes well-known songs such as "You're My Best Friend," "Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good," "Amanda," "I Believe in You," "Tulsa Time," "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend," and "Till the Rivers All Run Dry." His recording of "I Believe in You" was certified platinum, while the albums "The Best of Don Williams, Volume II" and "Volume III" were each certified gold. Williams was honored as the Country Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978. In 2010, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He retired from touring in 2016 and passed away in 2017 in Mobile, Alabama.
