George Banton

George Banton, a Jamaican-born gospel singer, began his musical journey singing in church choirs during his childhood in the Parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. In the early 1970s, he joined the Jamaican gospel ensemble the Gospel Light Band. He later served as a lead singer for the gospel group the Grace Thrillers. Banton wrote the song "Too Late Shall Be Your Cry," which became a number-one gospel hit in Jamaica in 1973. He migrated to Canada in 1976. While he pursued a secular music career in the 1980s and 1990s, he later returned to his gospel roots. His catalog includes songs such as "I'm Next in Line for My Blessings," "The Water Is Troubled (Medley)," "Sanctify Me," "Farther Along," "The Preaching of the Gospel," and "On Christ the Solid Rock." Banton also received a Juno Award nomination for the song "No One Can Love Me Like You Do."
