About George Nooks
George Nooks (born c. 1958, Kingston, Jamaica) is a reggae singer, songwriter, and producer who began his career in his church's youth choir. He initially gained fame in the 1970s as a deejay under the name Prince Mohammed before transitioning to singing under his birth name in 1981.
Since the early 2000s, Nooks has recorded a prolific amount of gospel material, often blending reggae rhythms with gospel themes. He has stated that his gospel music is influenced by his upbringing in the Mount Carmel Apostolic Gospel Church. His catalog of gospel recordings includes songs such as *God Is Standing By* (2002), *Ride Out Your Storm* (2016), *I Must Tell Jesus* (2017), *He'll Do It Again* (2020), *Through It All* (2021), and *I Surrender All* (2022).
His 2016 album *Ride Out Your Storm* reached number 4 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and number 22 on the Gospel chart. In 2019, he received the Gospel Icon Award from the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA). Nooks does not identify exclusively as a gospel artist, describing himself as an artist who produces "decent music" across multiple genres.
