Guy Penrod

Guy Penrod is an American gospel singer known for his work as a solo artist and as the former lead vocalist of the Gaither Vocal Band. He was born on July 2, 1963, in Abilene, Texas, and was raised in Texas and New Mexico as the son of a pastor. Penrod earned a bachelor’s degree in music and vocal performance from Liberty University. Before joining the Gaither Vocal Band, Penrod worked as a studio session singer in Nashville, backing various country and gospel artists. He served as the lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1995 to 2009. During his tenure with the group, he was part of the Grammy Award-winning album *Lovin' Life*, which won the Grammy for Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album in 2009. He also received multiple Dove Awards as a member of the group. Penrod launched a solo career in 2009 with the release of his debut album, *Breathe Deep*. He has since released several albums, including *Hymns*, *Worship*, *Christmas*, *Classics*, and *Live: Hymns & Worship*. His album *Hymns* was the top-selling Southern gospel album of 2012. His recorded songs include "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Because He Lives." In 2011, he was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Penrod has also hosted the program *Gospel Music Showcase* on the Daystar Television Network. He is a father of eight children.
