The group was formed in 1998 and was originally known as "United Live" before changing its name to Hillsong United in 2002. The collective is composed of rotating worship leaders and musicians from the Hillsong Church community, with key figures including Joel Houston, Taya Gaukrodger, JD Douglass, and Matt Crocker.
