About Hlengiwe Mhlaba
Hlengiwe Mhlaba is a South African gospel singer, songwriter, and recording artist known for her ministry and praise and worship music. She was born on July 7, 1973, in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Before launching her professional music career, she worked as a music and singing teacher.
Mhlaba began her music ministry in 2005 with the release of her debut album, *Dwala Lami*. She gained early recognition performing for church audiences and at crusades in KwaZulu-Natal and Swaziland. Her catalog includes the albums *Blessings* (2016) and *Jesu Uyalalela* (2024), as well as songs such as *Sweet Jesus*, *Living Waters*, *Sewakhile*, and *Rock of Ages*. She is recognized for her unique vocal style, which blends gospel, soul, and traditional South African music.
Over the course of her career, Mhlaba has won multiple South African Music Awards (SAMA) and Crown Gospel Music Awards. She has also performed at significant national events, including the state memorial service for Nelson Mandela. In 2020, she received an honorary Doctorate in Theology from Immanuel University of Theology International.
