Jonathan Nelson

Jonathan Andrew Nelson was born on November 10, 1974, in Baltimore, Maryland. Raised in a Pentecostal church environment where his father served as a pastor, he developed a foundation in gospel music from an early age. He later refined his vocal and choral skills by studying at the Baltimore School for the Arts and Morgan State University. Nelson founded and directs the gospel vocal ensemble known as PURPOSE. He also serves as the Senior Director of Worship and Arts at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. His career as a recording artist includes major label releases such as *Right Now Praise* (2008), *Better Days* (2010), *Finish Strong* (2013), *Fearless* (2016), and *Declarations* (2018). Songs in his catalog include "Our God (Medley)," "I Believe (Island Medley)," "I Give You Glory," "Anything Can Happen," "My Hope," "My Name Is Victory," and "Manifest." Nelson won a Stellar Award for Song of the Year in 2006 for the song "Healed." He also received two Dove Award nominations in 2008 for New Artist of the Year and Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.
