Kidum

Kidum, born Jean-Pierre Nimbona on October 28, 1974, in Kinama, Bujumbura, Burundi, is a singer, songwriter, drummer, and leader of the Boda Boda band. Known professionally as Kidum or Kidum Kibido, a nickname meaning "20-liter jug" given by his mother, he fled political instability in Burundi in 1995 and relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, to pursue his music career. He recorded his first song, "Yaramenje," in 1999. Kidum sings in multiple languages, including Kirundi, Kiswahili, French, English, and Spanish. His catalog includes songs such as "Nafasi Yote Moyoni (Namba Moja)," "Nipe Nguvu," "Haturudi Nyuma," "Nitafanya," "Mapenzi," "Pokea Sifa (Uhimidiwe)," and "Kwetu." Kidum was named Best Male Artist of East Africa at the 2012 Kora Awards. He also received the Pearl of Africa Award in 2011, the ISC's World Music Award in 2015, and the Buja Music Awards in 2017. He has been named an Ambassador for Peace to foster hope and reconciliation in East Africa.
