About Larnelle Harris

Larnelle Harris is an American gospel singer and songwriter who has been a prominent figure in contemporary Christian music for over five decades. Born Larnelle Steward Harris on July 11, 1947, in Danville, Kentucky, he received formal vocal training at Western Kentucky University, graduating in 1969. He began his career touring with the gospel group The Spurrlows and later became a member of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1984 to 1987. He is known for his classically trained tenor voice. Harris has recorded 22 albums throughout his career. His catalog includes well-known songs such as "I've Just Seen Jesus," "How Excellent Is Thy Name," "Amen," "I Miss My Time With You," "More Than Wonderful," "Seekers of Your Heart," "Mighty Spirit," and "Disturb Us, Lord." His achievements include five Grammy Awards and eleven Dove Awards. He has also earned nineteen number one radio singles on inspirational music charts. In 2007, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Harris is the only person to be a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, and the Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. He was also the first Christian artist to receive the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts from the state of Kentucky.
