About Luther Barnes
Luther Lee Barnes was born on March 10, 1954, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and has built a career as a gospel singer, songwriter, record producer, and director. He is the son of the late Reverend F.C. Barnes, the gospel artist known for the song "Rough Side of the Mountain." Barnes leads the gospel groups Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilaires and the Red Budd Gospel Choir, and he also serves as the pastor of the Restoration Worship Center in his hometown.
Barnes holds a music education degree from St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Before focusing on his music ministry full-time, he worked as a high school music teacher and a private piano instructor. He is the president of Luther Barnes Song Ministries. His catalog includes songs such as "God's Grace," "I'm Still Holding On," "Spirit Fall Down," "Somehow Someway," "Lifetime," "Lead Me," and "Wherever I Go."
Over the course of his career, Barnes has received several honors. He was awarded a 1992 Vision Award, a Stellar Award (Excellence Award), and a GMWA Excellence Award. In 2004, he received a Grammy Award nomination. In 2018, he was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
