About Mandisa

Mandisa (born Mandisa Lynn Hundley; 1976–2024) was an American gospel and contemporary Christian recording artist. She was born and raised in Citrus Heights, California, and studied vocal performance at American River College before continuing her education at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. During her time at Fisk, she was a member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. She gained national attention as a contestant on the fifth season of *American Idol*, where she finished in ninth place. Before her solo career, she worked as a session and backup vocalist for artists including Shania Twain and Trisha Yearwood. She also toured with Christian author and speaker Beth Moore as part of her worship team. Mandisa released her debut album, *True Beauty*, which topped the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Her catalog also includes the albums *Freedom*, *What If We Were Real*, and *Overcomer*. The album *Overcomer* debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Albums Chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Among the songs in her catalog are "Overcomer," "Good Morning" featuring TobyMac, "Way Maker," and "Unfinished." Throughout her career, she was open about her struggles with depression and her Christian faith.
