Mormon Tabernacle Choir

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, is a renowned choral ensemble affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Founded on August 22, 1847, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the choir consists of 360 volunteer singers who are members of the Church. The ensemble is frequently accompanied by the Orchestra at Temple Square. The choir produces the weekly broadcast "Music & the Spoken Word," which has aired for nearly a century. Mack Wilberg has served as the music director since 2008. In October 2018, the group officially changed its name from "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" to "The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square" to align with its sponsoring organization. The choir's recorded catalog includes sacred hymns and gospel repertoire such as "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come," "I Need Thee Every Hour," "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly," "There is Sunshine in My Soul Today," and "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." The ensemble has received significant recognition, including a Grammy Award for its 1959 album *The Battle Hymn of the Republic*. The choir has also received three Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
