Patti LaBelle

Patti LaBelle was born Patricia Louise Holte on May 24, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She began her career in the early 1960s as the lead singer of the vocal group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. The group later evolved into the funk trio LaBelle in the 1970s, achieving a number-one hit with "Lady Marmalade." She launched a successful solo career in 1977 following the group's disbandment. Throughout her career, LaBelle has been known for crossover hits including "New Attitude" and "On My Own," a duet with Michael McDonald. She has won multiple Grammy Awards for her work in the R&B field, including the 1992 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for the album *Burnin'* and the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for the album *Live! One Night Only*. LaBelle grew up singing in a local Baptist church choir, and her connection to gospel music has remained a part of her life. In 2006, she released her first full-length gospel album, *The Gospel According to Patti LaBelle*, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel chart. She also recorded the song "Changed" with Deborah Joy Winans for the *Greenleaf* Season 3 Soundtrack in 2018.
