Sammie Okposo

Sammie Okposo (May 30, 1971 – November 25, 2022) was a Nigerian gospel artist and music producer. He began his music career in his local church choir, playing the piano at age 10. He later became the CEO of Zamar Entertainment. Okposo gained international recognition with his hit song "Welu Welu" in 2000. As a lead psalmist, he performed regularly in Africa, Europe, and North America. He also curated a series of concerts known as the Sammie Okposo Praise Party (SOPP). His catalog includes songs such as "Oluwa E Tobi," "Sing Halleluyah," "A Marvellous Thing," "The Glory is Here," "I thirst for you," and "Nobody Can." Over the course of his career, Okposo received several honors. He was named Best Contemporary Gospel Artiste at the Power of Music and Praise Awards in 2002. The following year, he won Best Male Gospel Artiste in Africa at the Kora Awards. In 2012, he was honored as a Trailblazer at the African Gospel Music Awards in the UK, and in 2017 he was named Male Artiste of the Year at the African Gospel Music and Media Awards, also in the UK. He also collaborated with international gospel artists including Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and Donnie McClurkin.
