Sauti Sol

Sauti Sol is a Kenyan Afropop band formed in Nairobi in 2005. The group consists of vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, and Savara Mudigi, and guitarist Polycarp Otieno. The band was initially formed as an a cappella group before evolving into a full band. The name "Sauti Sol" combines the Swahili word for "sound" (Sauti) and the Spanish word for "sun" (Sol). The group released their debut studio album, *Mwanzo*, in 2008. This was followed by the album *Sol Filosofia* in 2011 and the *Sauti Sol* EP in 2012. Their 2015 album *Live and Die in Afrika* includes the song "Kuliko Jana." In 2019, the band launched their own record label, Sol Generation Records, and released the album *Afrikan Sauce*. Their album *Midnight Train* was released in 2020. Sauti Sol has received several international honors. They won Best African Act at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards and Best African Group at the 2015 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA). Earlier in their career, they won Best Music Video and Best Fusion Artist/Group of the Year at the 2011 Kisima Music Awards. The band announced a hiatus in 2021 to pursue individual solo projects.
