Sue Dodge

Sue Dodge, a celebrated Southern Gospel singer and minister, began her professional career in 1969 when she joined the gospel group The Downings. Born Sue Ellen Chenault in Little Rock, Arkansas, she would go on to also serve as a member of the prominent group The Speer Family. Her vocal talent was recognized with the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year four times. She has performed in numerous countries and appeared regularly on the Gaither Homecoming series. In recognition of her contributions to the genre, she was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Beyond her music career, Dodge co-founded Capital Church in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Amos Dodge, in 1979, serving as a pastor there until her retirement by 2019. Her recorded catalog includes songs such as "There Shall Be Showers of Blessing," "When He Was On the Cross (I Was On His Mind)," "Just Tell Them When You Saw Me I Was On My Way," "He Was There All the Time," "O Holy Night," "When I Meet You," and "There Is a Hope." In 2022, she was awarded the "Living Legend" award by Christian Voice Magazine.
