About Switchfoot

Switchfoot is an American alternative rock band formed in 1996 in San Diego, California. The band was founded by brothers Jon Foreman (lead vocals, guitar) and Tim Foreman (bass), along with drummer Chad Butler. They originally performed under the name "Chin Up" before adopting the name "Switchfoot," a surfing term referring to changing one's stance. The band's major-label breakthrough occurred with the 2003 album *The Beautiful Letdown*, which featured the hit singles "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." The album was certified double-platinum. The band has maintained a consistent lineup including Jerome Fontamillas, who joined in 2003. Members of the band have described their music as being "Christian by faith, not by genre." Switchfoot has been noted for exploring themes of hope, doubt, and spiritual struggle in their songwriting. Their catalog includes songs such as "Invincible Joy," "The Shadow Proves The Sunshine," "The Cure For The Pain," "Where I Belong," "Your Love is A Song," "All I Need," and "The Bones of Us." Their album *Hello Hurricane* (2009) won a Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album.
