Tasha Cobbs Leonard was born Natasha Tameika Cobbs-Leonard on July 7, 1981, in Jesup, Georgia. Raised as a pastor’s daughter, she began her career leading worship at her father’s church, Jesup New Life Ministries. She released her independent debut album, *Smile*, in 2010, and gained national acclaim with her 2013 major-label debut EP, *Grace*, which featured the hit single “Break Every Chain.”
Her catalog includes songs such as “You Know My Name,” “For Your Glory,” “Your Spirit,” “No Longer Slaves,” “Counting My Blessings,” “Church” featuring John Legend, and “Final Say.” She is known for blending gospel with various genres, including R&B, pop, hip-hop, and bluegrass.
Cobbs Leonard has won 3 Grammy Awards, 16 Stellar Awards, 15 GMA Dove Awards, and 3 Billboard Music Awards. She was named Billboard’s Top Gospel Artist of the Decade. In 2019, she and her husband, Kenneth Leonard Jr., founded The Purpose Place Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where they serve as pastors.
