MercyMe

MercyMe is a contemporary Christian band from Texas, known for their melodic tunes and heartfelt lyrics. The band was formed in 1994 by lead vocalist Bart Millard and bassist Mike Scheuchzer.

Bart Millard was born on December 1st, 1972, in Greenville, Texas. He grew up in a troubled home with an abusive father who eventually left when he was only eighteen years old. This experience heavily influenced his songwriting and led to the creation of one of MercyMe's biggest hits, "I Can Only Imagine."

The other members of the band are Jim Bryson (keys), Nathan Cochran (bass), Barry Graul (guitar), and Robby Shaffer (drums). Over the years, MercyMe has released several albums that have reached platinum status such as “Almost There” which sold over two million copies.

MercyMe's first album release came in 1997 with “The Worship Project.” It wasn't until their third album release “Almost There” that gained them recognition outside of their Christian fanbase with songs like "I Can Only Imagine" which charted well on secular charts.

Since then they've released multiple successful albums including "Spoken For," "Undone," "Coming Up to Breathe," “All That Is Within Me,” ”The Generous Mr Lovewell”, among others. Their latest album titled 'Inhale Exhale' was released in April 2021.

Despite being primarily known as a Christian band, MercyMe has received mainstream attention through appearances on popular television shows such as American Idol and Good Morning America.

Over the course of its career so far spanning almost three decades now, MercyMe has won numerous awards including eight Dove Awards for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album along with many nominations for Grammy awards too. They remain one of the most successful bands within Contemporary Christian Music today having sold over 10 million records worldwide.
