Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(41) The sons of Anah; Dishon.--Genesis 36:25 adds, "and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah." (Comp. 1Chronicles 1:52, "the chiliarch of Aholibamah.") Dishon, like Ammon or Israel, being the collective name of a number of tribes or clans, there is nothing strange in the expression, "The sons of Anah; Dishon."Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThe sonבְּנֵ֥י (bə·nê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 1121: A sonof Anah:עֲנָ֖ה (‘ă·nāh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 6034: Anah -- two HoritesDishon.דִּישׁ֑וֹן (dî·šō·wn)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1787: Dishon -- two EdomitesThe sonsוּבְנֵ֣י (ū·ḇə·nê)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 1121: A sonof Dishon:דִישׁ֔וֹן (ḏî·šō·wn)Noun - proper - mdStrong's 1787: Dishon -- two EdomitesHemdan,חַמְרָ֥ן (ḥam·rān)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 2566: Hamran -- a descendant of EsauEshban,וְאֶשְׁבָּ֖ן (wə·’eš·bān)Conjunctive waw | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 790: Eshban -- son of an Edomite leaderIthran,וְיִתְרָ֥ן (wə·yiṯ·rān)Conjunctive waw | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3506: Ithran -- an Edomite, also an Asheriteand Cheran.וּכְרָֽן׃ (ū·ḵə·rān)Conjunctive waw | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3763: Cheran -- an EdomiteJump to PreviousAmram Anah Cheran Dishon Eshban Hemdan Ithran Jithran Keran
