Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(5) And when the ark . . . came into the camp.--As far as we know, this was the first time since the establishment of the people in Canaan that the Ark had been brought from the permanent sanctuary into the camp. The shout of joy represented the confidence of the army that now the Ark, which had witnessed so many splendid victories of the chosen race, was among them, discomfiture was out of the question.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewWhenוַיְהִ֗י (way·hî)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, bethe arkאֲר֤וֹן (’ă·rō·wn)Noun - common singular constructStrong's 727: A chest, arkof the covenantבְּרִית־ (bə·rîṯ-)Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 1285: A covenantof the LORDיְהוָה֙ (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelenteredכְּב֨וֹא (kə·ḇō·w)Preposition-k | Verb - Qal - Infinitive constructStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gothe camp,הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (ham·ma·ḥă·neh)Article | Noun - common singularStrong's 4264: An encampment, an armyallכָל־ (ḵāl)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (yiś·rā·’êl)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3478: Israel -- 'God strives', another name of Jacob and his descraisedגְדוֹלָ֑ה (ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh)Adjective - feminine singularStrong's 1419: Great, older, insolentsuch a greatתְּרוּעָ֣ה (tə·rū·‘āh)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 8643: Clamor, acclamation of joy, a battle-cry, clangor, of trumpets, as an alarumshoutוַיָּרִ֥עוּ (way·yā·ri·‘ū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 7321: To mar, to split the ears, shoutthat it shookוַתֵּהֹ֖ם (wat·tê·hōm)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Nifal - Consecutive imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 1949: To make an uproar, agitate greatlythe ground.הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (hā·’ā·reṣ)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 776: Earth, landJump to PreviousAgreement Ark Camp Covenant Cry Earth Israel Lord's Mighty Moved Raised Rang Resounded Shook Shout Shouted Sounding Tent-Circle
