Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(5) And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen.--Literally, the sacrifice of the oxen twenty and two thousand. Kings, "the sacrifice of the peace offerings which he sacrificed to Jehovah, oxen twenty and two thousand." The italicised words seem to have fallen out of our text. The numbers are the same in both accounts. The people.--Kings has the old name, sons of Israel, and house of Jehovah for house of God.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAnd Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (ham·me·leḵ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4428: A kingSolomonשְׁלֹמֹה֮ (šə·lō·mōh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 8010: Solomon -- David's son and successor to his throneofferedוַיִּזְבַּ֞ח (way·yiz·baḥ)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2076: To slaughter for sacrificea sacrificeזֶ֣בַח (ze·ḇaḥ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2077: A slaughter, the flesh of an animal, a sacrificeof 22,000עֶשְׂרִ֤ים (‘eś·rîm)Number - common pluralStrong's 6242: Twenty, twentiethoxenהַבָּקָ֗ר (hab·bā·qār)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1241: Beef cattle, ox, a herdand 120,000מֵאָ֥ה (mê·’āh)Number - feminine singularStrong's 3967: A hundredsheep.וְצֹ֕אן (wə·ṣōn)Conjunctive waw | Noun - common singularStrong's 6629: Small cattle, sheep and goats, flockSo the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (ham·me·leḵ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4428: A kingand allוְכָל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe peopleהָעָֽם׃ (hā·‘ām)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5971: A people, a tribe, troops, attendants, a flockdedicatedוַֽיַּחְנְכוּ֙ (way·yaḥ·nə·ḵū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 2596: To narrow, to initiate, disciplinethe houseבֵּ֣ית (bêṯ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1004: A houseof God.הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים (hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm)Article | Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 430: gods -- the supreme God, magistrates, a superlativeJump to PreviousCattle Dedicate Dedicated Feast Flock Goats Head House Hundred Kept Offered Opening Oxen Sacrifice Sacrificed Sacrificeth Sheep Solomon Temple Thousand Twenty Twenty-Two
