Pulpit CommentaryVerse 16. - And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. Jehonadab must have understood that some further measures were about to be taken against the family and adherents of Ahab. He evidently approved of all that Jehu had already done, and was willing to give his countenance to further severities. He probably did not know exactly what Jehu designed; but he must have been able to make a tolerably shrewd guess at what was impending. So they made him ride in his chariot. Perhaps וַיַדְכִבוּ should be changed into וַיַּדְכִּיב, which seems to have been the reading of the LXX., who translate, by ἐπικάθισεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἅρματι αὐτοῦ, "he made him ride in his chariot."

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(16) See.--Rather, look on at.My zeal for the Lord.--Jehu addresses Jehonadab as a notoriously staunch adherent of the old faith.They made him ride.--The Syriac, LXX., and Arabic read, "he made him ride;" the Vulg. is ambiguous; the Targum agrees with the Hebrew text, which may mean that Jehu's followers assisted Jehonadab (who was probably an aged sheikh) to mount the chariot.
