Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(3) The God of my rock.--In the psalm, "My God, my rock" (margin). The two expressions of the psalm are here united in one, and the recurrence of the similar expression in 2Samuel 22:47 (but not in the psalm) indicates that this was intentional. And my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.--These words are omitted from the psalm, being compensated in part by the opening line there.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewMy God [is]אֱלֹהֵ֥י (’ĕ·lō·hê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 430: gods -- the supreme God, magistrates, a superlativemy rock,צוּרִ֖י (ṣū·rî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 6697: A cliff, a rock, boulder, a refuge, an edgein whom I take refuge,אֶחֱסֶה־ (’e·ḥĕ·seh-)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - first person common singularStrong's 2620: To flee for, protection, to confide inmy shield,מָגִנִּ֞י (mā·ḡin·nî)Noun - common singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 4043: A shield, a protector, the scaly hide of the crocodileand the hornוְקֶ֣רֶן (wə·qe·ren)Conjunctive waw | Noun - feminine singular constructStrong's 7161: A horn, a flask, cornet, an elephant's tooth, a corner, a peak, a ray, powerof my salvation.יִשְׁעִ֗י (yiš·‘î)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 3468: Deliverance, rescue, salvation, safety, welfareMy stronghold,מִשְׂגַּבִּי֙ (miś·gab·bî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 4869: A secure height, retreat, strongholdmy refuge,וּמְנוּסִ֔י (ū·mə·nū·sî)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 4498: Flight, place of escape or refugeand my Savior,מֹשִׁעִ֕י (mō·ši·‘î)Verb - Hifil - Participle - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 3467: To be open, wide, free, to be safe, to free, succorYou save meתֹּשִׁעֵֽנִי׃ (tō·ši·‘ê·nî)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - second person masculine singular | first person common singularStrong's 3467: To be open, wide, free, to be safe, to free, succorfrom violence.מֵחָמָ֖ס (mê·ḥā·mās)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2555: Violence, wrong, by meton, unjust gainJump to PreviousBreastplate Faith High Horn Keeps Preserver Refuge Rock Safe Salvation Save Savest Savior Saviour Shield Stronghold Tower Trust Violence Violent
