Pulpit CommentaryVerse 3. - I will turn aside. Suspecting nothing but a natural phenomenon, which he was anxious to investigate. The action bespeaks him a man of sense and intelligence, not easily scared or imposed upon.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(3) I will now turn aside.--A minute touch, in dicating that Moses is the writer. He remembers that the bush did not grow on the track which he was pursuing, but lay off it, and that he had to "turn aside," in order to make his inspection.This great sight.--The phenomenon was strange and unusual--worthy of note, whatever might be the cause.
