Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(27) Your fathers have blasphemed me.--The fourth period of Israelitish history, though actually far the longest, is very briefly passed over (Ezekiel 20:27-29). It includes the whole period of the settlement in Canaan, from the conquest to the prophet's own time, and was marked by the same characteristics as before. The particular way here specified by which they blasphemed was by the erection of idolatrous altars on every high place.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewTherefore,לָכֵ֞ן (lā·ḵên)AdverbStrong's 3651: So -- thussonבֶּן־ (ben-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1121: A sonof man,אָדָ֔ם (’ā·ḏām)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 120: Ruddy, a human beingspeakדַּבֵּ֨ר (dab·bêr)Verb - Piel - Imperative - masculine singularStrong's 1696: To arrange, to speak, to subduetoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothe houseבֵּ֤ית (bêṯ)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1004: A houseof Israel,יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (yiś·rā·’êl)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3478: Israel -- 'God strives', another name of Jacob and his descand tell them thatוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (wə·’ā·mar·tā)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - second person masculine singularStrong's 559: To utter, saythis is whatכֹּ֥ה (kōh)AdverbStrong's 3541: Like this, thus, here, nowthe Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י (’ă·ḏō·nāy)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 136: The LordGODיְהוִ֑ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3069: YHWHsays:אָמַ֖ר (’ā·mar)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 559: To utter, say‘In this wayזֹ֚את (zōṯ)Pronoun - feminine singularStrong's 2063: Hereby in it, likewise, the one other, same, she, so much, such deed, that, alsoע֗וֹד (‘ō·wḏ)AdverbStrong's 5750: Iteration, continuance, again, repeatedly, still, moreyour fathersאֲב֣וֹתֵיכֶ֔ם (’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem)Noun - masculine plural construct | second person masculine pluralStrong's 1: Fatherblasphemedגִּדְּפ֤וּ (gid·də·p̄ū)Verb - Piel - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 1442: To revile, blasphemeMeאוֹתִי֙ (’ō·w·ṯî)Direct object marker | first person common singularStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative caseby their unfaithfulnessמָֽעַל׃ (mā·‘al)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4603: To cover up, to act covertly, treacherouslyagainst Me.בְּמַעֲלָ֥ם (bə·ma·‘ă·lām)Preposition-b | Verb - Qal - Infinitive construct | third person masculine pluralStrong's 4604: An unfaithful or treacherous actJump to PreviousActing Blasphemed Cause Children Committed Dealing Dealt Fathers Forsaking Further House Israel Moreover Shame Sovereign Speak Treacherously Trespass Unfaithfulness Wrong Wrought
