Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(24) That is not cleansed.--The third and last Divine communication of this chapter begins with Ezekiel 22:23, and contains a further enumeration of the sins of Israel, showing that they have been committed by all classes alike, and ending, like the others, with the prophecy of the outpouring of God's wrath. There is much difference of opinion as to the meaning of the clause "that is not cleansed;" the most probable view is that it speaks of the land as neglected and uncared for--the stones not gathered up and the weeds allowed to grow. It has had neither human care, nor has it received the Divine blessing of rain.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrew“Sonבֶּן־ (ben-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1121: A sonof man,אָדָ֕ם (’ā·ḏām)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 120: Ruddy, a human beingsayאֱמָר־ (’ĕ·mār-)Verb - Qal - Imperative - masculine singularStrong's 559: To utter, sayto her,לָ֕הּ (lāh)Preposition | third person feminine singularStrong's Hebrew ‘In the dayבְּי֥וֹם (bə·yō·wm)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3117: A dayof indignation,זָֽעַם׃ (zā·‘am)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2195: Froth at the mouth, furyyouאַ֣תְּ (’at)Pronoun - second person feminine singularStrong's 859: Thou and thee, ye and youare a landאֶ֔רֶץ (’e·reṣ)Noun - feminine singularStrong's 776: Earth, landthat has notלֹ֥א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nobeen cleansed,מְטֹהָרָ֖ה (mə·ṭō·hā·rāh)Verb - Pual - Participle - feminine singularStrong's 2891: To be clean or pureupon whichהִ֑יא (hî)Pronoun - third person feminine singularStrong's 1931: He, self, the same, this, that, as, are[no] rain has fallen.’גֻשְׁמָ֖הּ (ḡuš·māh)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 1656: Rained upon Jump to PreviousCleansed Indignation Rain Rained Showers Thunderstorm Wrath
