Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(38) In the same day.--This is explained more fully in Ezekiel 23:39. Emphasis is laid upon the fact that they worshipped in the sanctuary of Jehovah in the same day that they offered their children to their idols, because the passing directly from the one to the other showed an utter disregard of the commands of the Lord, and an entire want of appreciation of His character and holiness. The figure in this and the following verses is partly dropped to bring out better the reality.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThey have alsoע֥וֹד (‘ō·wḏ)AdverbStrong's 5750: Iteration, continuance, again, repeatedly, still, moredoneעָ֣שׂוּ (‘ā·śū)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 6213: To do, maketo Meלִ֑י (lî)Preposition | first person common singularStrong's Hebrew this:זֹ֖את (zōṯ)Pronoun - feminine singularStrong's 2063: Hereby in it, likewise, the one other, same, she, so much, such deed, that, On that very sameהַה֔וּא (ha·hū)Article | Pronoun - third person masculine singularStrong's 1931: He, self, the same, this, that, as, aredayבַּיּ֣וֹם (bay·yō·wm)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3117: A daythey defiledטִמְּא֤וּ (ṭim·mə·’ū)Verb - Piel - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanMy sanctuaryמִקְדָּשִׁי֙ (miq·dā·šî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 4720: A consecrated thing, place, a palace, sanctuary, asylumand profanedחִלֵּֽלוּ׃ (ḥil·lê·lū)Verb - Piel - Perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 2490: To bore, to wound, to dissolve, to profane, to break, to begin, to playMy Sabbaths.שַׁבְּתוֹתַ֖י (šab·bə·ṯō·w·ṯay)Noun - common plural construct | first person common singularStrong's 7676: Intermission, the SabbathJump to PreviousDefiled Desecrated Further Holy Moreover Polluted Profaned Sabbaths Sanctuary Time Unclean
