Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(4) Her dust.--Comp. Ezekiel 26:12. The dust is that of her ruined walls and palaces and temples. "Scraping" expresses their utter destruction. As an historic fact, the ruins of the ancient city have all been thrown into the sea, and what now remains is of mediaeval construction, although the greater part of even the mediaeval ruins have been carried away.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThey will destroyוְשִׁחֲת֞וּ (wə·ši·ḥă·ṯū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 7843: Perhaps to go to ruinthe wallsחֹמ֣וֹת (ḥō·mō·wṯ)Noun - feminine plural constructStrong's 2346: A wall of protectionof Tyreצֹ֗ר (ṣōr)Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 6865: Tyre -- a Phoenician cityand demolishוְהָֽרְסוּ֙ (wə·hā·rə·sū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person common pluralStrong's 2040: To pull down, in pieces, break, & destroyher towers.מִגְדָּלֶ֔יהָ (miḡ·dā·le·hā)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 4026: A tower, a rostrum, a, bed of flowersI will scrapeוְסִֽחֵיתִ֥י (wə·si·ḥê·ṯî)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singularStrong's 5500: To sweep awaythe soilעֲפָרָ֖הּ (‘ă·p̄ā·rāh)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 6083: Dust, clay, earth, mudfrom herמִמֶּ֑נָּה (mim·men·nāh)Preposition | third person feminine singularStrong's 4480: A part of, from, out ofand makeוְנָתַתִּ֥י (wə·nā·ṯat·tî)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singularStrong's 5414: To give, put, setherאוֹתָ֖הּ (’ō·w·ṯāh)Direct object marker | third person feminine singularStrong's 853: Untranslatable mark of the accusative casea bareלִצְחִ֥יחַ (liṣ·ḥî·aḥ)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 6706: Glaring, exposed to the bright sunrock.סָֽלַע׃ (sā·la‘)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5553: A craggy rockJump to PreviousBare Break Broken Clear Debris Destroy Destroyed Destruction Dust Pull Rock Rubble Scrape Scraped Soil Top Towers Tyre Tyrus Uncovered Walls
