Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(27) And in all.--Better, as in the margin, with all. The thought is that all that went to make up the strength and the glory of Tyre perished in one great catastrophe. Many classes are enumerated, and the statement is made general by adding "with all thy company." All are represented as going down together with the ship. (Comp. Ezekiel 27:34.)Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewYour wealth,הוֹנֵךְ֙ (hō·w·nêḵ)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 1952: Wealth, sufficiencywares,וְעִזְבוֹנַ֔יִךְ (wə·‘iz·ḇō·w·na·yiḵ)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 5801: Trade, the place, the paymentand goods,מַעֲרָבֵ֕ךְ (ma·‘ă·rā·ḇêḵ)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 4627: Articles of exchange, merchandiseyour sailors,מַלָּחַ֖יִךְ (mal·lā·ḥa·yiḵ)Noun - masculine plural construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 4419: A marinercaptains,וְחֹבְלָ֑יִךְ (wə·ḥō·ḇə·lā·yiḵ)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine plural construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 2259: A sailorand shipwrights,מַחֲזִיקֵ֣י (ma·ḥă·zî·qê)Verb - Hifil - Participle - masculine plural constructStrong's 2388: To fasten upon, to seize, be strong, obstinate, to bind, restrain, conqueryour merchantsוְֽעֹרְבֵ֣י (wə·‘ō·rə·ḇê)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine plural constructStrong's 6148: To braid, intermix, technically, to traffic, give to be securityand allוְכָל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe warriorsאַנְשֵׁ֨י (’an·šê)Noun - masculine plural constructStrong's 376: A man as an individual, a male personwithin you,מִלְחַמְתֵּ֜ךְ (mil·ḥam·têḵ)Noun - feminine singular construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 4421: A battle, warwith allוּבְכָל־ (ū·ḇə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw, Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everythe other people on board,קְהָלֵךְ֙ (qə·hā·lêḵ)Noun - masculine singular construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 6951: Assembly, convocation, congregationwill sinkיִפְּלוּ֙ (yip·pə·lū)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 5307: To fall, lieinto the heartבְּלֵ֣ב (bə·lêḇ)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3820: The heart, the feelings, the will, the intellect, centreof the seaיַמִּ֔ים (yam·mîm)Noun - masculine pluralStrong's 3220: A sea, the Mediterranean Sea, large river, an artifical basinon the dayבְּי֖וֹם (bə·yō·wm)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3117: A dayof your downfall.מַפַּלְתֵּֽךְ׃ (map·pal·têḵ)Noun - feminine singular construct | second person feminine singularStrong's 4658: Fall, decadence, a ruin, a carcaseJump to PreviousBoard Calkers Company Dealers Exchangers Fairs Fall Goods Guiding Heart Mariners Merchandise Merchants Midst Military Overthrow Pilots Repairers Riches Ruin Sea Seamen Seams Seas Ship Ships Shipwrights Sink Soldiers Trade War Wares Wealth
