Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(13, 14) That led them . . .--Each comparison is singularly appropriate. Israel passes through the sea as a horse through the wide grassy plain (not the sandy desert, as "wilderness" suggests). Then, when its wanderings are over, it passes into Canaan, as a herd of cattle descends from the hills into the rich pasturage of the valleys, that guidance also coming from the Spirit of Jehovah.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrewwho ledמוֹלִיכָ֖ם (mō·w·lî·ḵām)Verb - Hifil - Participle - masculine singular construct | third person masculine pluralStrong's 1980: To go, come, walkthem through the depthsבַּתְּהֹמ֑וֹת (bat·tə·hō·mō·wṯ)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - common pluralStrong's 8415: An abyss, the deeplike a horseכַּסּ֥וּס (kas·sūs)Preposition-k, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5483: A swallow, swift (type of bird)in the wilderness,בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר (bam·miḏ·bār)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4057: A pasture, a desert, speechso that they did notלֹ֥א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nostumble?יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ׃ (yik·kā·šê·lū)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 3782: To totter, waver, to falter, stumble, faint, fallJump to PreviousCountry Deep Depths Desert Horse Led Open Plain Stumble Stumbled Stumbling Waste Waters Wilderness
