Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(22) They shall be carried to Babylon.--The fulfilment of the prediction is recorded in 2Kings 25:13-17.Until the day that I visit them.--The date is not given definitely, but seventy years had been already named as the period between the plunder and the restoration (Jeremiah 25:12). Here the undefined vagueness of "the day that I will visit them" is contrasted with the equally indefinite but more exciting "shortly" of the false prophets (Jeremiah 27:16).Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrew‘They will be carriedיוּבָ֖אוּ (yū·ḇā·’ū)Verb - Hofal - Imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, goto Babylonבָּבֶ֥לָה (bā·ḇe·lāh)Noun - proper - feminine singular | third person feminine singularStrong's 894: Babylon -- an eastern Mediterranean empire and its capital cityand will remainיִֽהְי֑וּ (yih·yū)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, bethereוְשָׁ֣מָּה (wə·šām·māh)Conjunctive waw | Adverb | third person feminine singularStrong's 8033: There, then, thitheruntilעַ֠ד (‘aḏ)PrepositionStrong's 5704: As far as, even to, up to, until, whilethe dayי֣וֹם (yō·wm)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3117: A dayI attend to them again,’פָּקְדִ֤י (pā·qə·ḏî)Verb - Qal - Infinitive construct | first person common singularStrong's 6485: To visit, to oversee, muster, charge, care for, miss, depositdeclaresנְאֻם־ (nə·’um-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 5002: An oraclethe LORD.יְהוָ֔ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israel‘Then I will bring them backוְהַֽעֲלִיתִים֙ (wə·ha·‘ă·lî·ṯîm)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singular | third person masculine pluralStrong's 5927: To ascend, in, activelyand restore themוַהֲשִׁ֣יבֹתִ֔ים (wa·hă·šî·ḇō·ṯîm)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Conjunctive perfect - first person common singular | third person masculine pluralStrong's 7725: To turn back, in, to retreat, againtoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, tothisהַזֶּֽה׃ (haz·zeh)Article | Pronoun - masculine singularStrong's 2088: This, thatplace.’”הַמָּק֖וֹם (ham·mā·qō·wm)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4725: A standing, a spot, a conditionJump to PreviousAffirmation Attention Babylon Carried Declares Inspecting Punishment Remember Restore Visit Visiting
