Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(9) The prophet which prophesieth of peace.--"Peace," with its Hebrew associations, includes all forms of national prosperity, and is therefore contrasted with famine and pestilence, not less than with war. The obvious reference to the test of a prophet's work, as described in Deuteronomy 18:22, shows, as other like references, the impression which that book had made on the prophet's mind.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAs for the prophetהַנָּבִ֕יא (han·nā·ḇî)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5030: A spokesman, speaker, prophetwhoאֲשֶׁ֥ר (’ă·šer)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatprophesiesיִנָּבֵ֖א (yin·nā·ḇê)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5012: To prophesy, speak, by inspirationpeace,לְשָׁל֑וֹם (lə·šā·lō·wm)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7965: Safe, well, happy, friendly, welfare, health, prosperity, peaceonly if the wordדְּבַ֣ר (də·ḇar)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1697: A word, a matter, thing, a causeof the prophetהַנָּבִ֗יא (han·nā·ḇî)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5030: A spokesman, speaker, prophetcomes trueבְּבֹא֙ (bə·ḇō)Preposition-b | Verb - Qal - Infinitive constructStrong's 935: To come in, come, go in, gowill the prophetהַנָּבִ֔יא (han·nā·ḇî)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5030: A spokesman, speaker, prophetbe recognizedיִוָּדַע֙ (yiw·wā·ḏa‘)Verb - Nifal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3045: To knowas one the LORDיְהוָ֖ה (Yah·weh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelhas trulyבֶּאֱמֶֽת׃ (be·’ĕ·meṯ)Preposition-b | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 571: Stability, certainty, truth, trustworthinesssent.”שְׁלָח֥וֹ (šə·lā·ḥōw)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singular | third person masculine singularStrong's 7971: To send away, for, outJump to PreviousPeace Prediction Prophesies Prophesieth Prophesy Prophet Really Recognized True.
