Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(12) They shewed Sisera.--The previous verse has been introduced by way of anticipation, that the reader--who has last heard of the Kenites in the south of Judah (Judges 1:16)--may not be surprised at Judges 4:17 to find them in Naphtali. It is not, therefore, necessary to suppose that the "they" means the Kenites. It may be an impersonal expression (as it is rendered in the LXX. and Vulg. "it was told").Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewWhen it was reportedוַיַּגִּ֖דוּ (way·yag·gi·ḏū)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Hifil - Consecutive imperfect - third person masculine pluralStrong's 5046: To be conspicuousto Siseraלְסִֽיסְרָ֑א (lə·sî·sə·rā)Preposition-l | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 5516: Sisera -- a general of the king of Hazor, also the father of some returning exilesthatכִּ֥י (kî)ConjunctionStrong's 3588: A relative conjunctionBarakבָּרָ֥ק (bā·rāq)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 1301: Barak -- 'flash of lightning', an Israelite leadersonבֶּן־ (ben-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 1121: A sonof Abinoamאֲבִינֹ֖עַם (’ă·ḇî·nō·‘am)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 42: Abinoam -- 'my father is delight', the father of Barakhad gone upעָלָ֛ה (‘ā·lāh)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5927: To ascend, in, activelyMountהַר־ (har-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2022: Mountain, hill, hill countryTabor,תָּבֽוֹר׃ (tā·ḇō·wr)Noun - proper - feminine singularStrong's 8396: Tabor -- a mountain Southwest of the Sea of GalileeJump to PreviousAbinoam Abin'o-Am Barak Declare Mount Showed Sisera Sis'era Tabor Word
