Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(33) And every earthen vessel.--The case, however, is different with regard to vessels made of clay and burned in the kiln.Whereinto any of them falleth.--Better, where into aught of them falleth, that is, into which any of the aforesaid portion of a defiling carcase falls (see Leviticus 11:32). Whilst defiled vessels of other materials were made clean by water, earthen vessels, when they became defiled, had to be destroyed (see Leviticus 6:28), and their contents were rendered polluted.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewIf any of themמֵהֶ֖ם (mê·hem)Preposition-m | Pronoun - third person masculine pluralStrong's 1992: Theyfallsיִפֹּ֥ל (yip·pōl)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 5307: To fall, lieintoאֶל־ (’el-)PrepositionStrong's 413: Near, with, among, toaוְכָל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyclayחֶ֔רֶשׂ (ḥe·reś)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 2789: Earthenware, earthen vessel, sherd, potsherdpot,כְּלִי־ (kə·lî-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3627: Something prepared, any apparatuseverythingכֹּ֣ל (kōl)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyinבְּתוֹכ֛וֹ (bə·ṯō·w·ḵōw)Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 8432: A bisection, the centreit will be unclean;יִטְמָ֖א (yiṭ·mā)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanyou must break [the pot].תִשְׁבֹּֽרוּ׃ (ṯiš·bō·rū)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - second person masculine pluralStrong's 7665: To break, break in piecesJump to PreviousBreak Broken Clay Earth Earthen Earthenware Fall Falleth Falls Gets Midst Pot Unclean Vessel Whatever Whatsoever Whereinto
