Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(34) And in the seventh day.--If at the expiration of the second week of quarantine the priest sees that none of the symptoms which generally indicate this distemper have appeared, he is to pronounce him clean, upon which, after performing the necessary ablutions, he is restored to the privileges of the sanctuary. (See Leviticus 13:6.)Be in sight deeper than the skin.--Better, is in appearance deeper than the other skin.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewOn the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י (haš·šə·ḇî·‘î)Article | Number - ordinal masculine singularStrong's 7637: Seventh (an ordinal number)dayבַּיּ֣וֹם (bay·yō·wm)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3117: A daythe priestהַכֹּהֵ֨ן (hak·kō·hên)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3548: Priestshall examineוְרָאָה֩ (wə·rā·’āh)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7200: To seethe scaly outbreak,הַנֶּ֜תֶק (han·ne·ṯeq)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5424: Scurfand ifוְ֠הִנֵּה (wə·hin·nêh)Conjunctive waw | InterjectionStrong's 2009: Lo! behold!itהַנֶּ֙תֶק֙ (han·ne·ṯeq)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5424: Scurfhas notלֹא־ (lō-)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nospreadפָשָׂ֤ה (p̄ā·śāh)Verb - Qal - Perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6581: To spreadon the skinבָּע֔וֹר (bā·‘ō·wr)Preposition-b, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5785: Skin, hide, leatherand does notאֵינֶ֥נּוּ (’ê·nen·nū)Adverb | third person masculine singularStrong's 369: A non-entity, a negative particleappear to beוּמַרְאֵ֕הוּ (ū·mar·’ê·hū)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 4758: Sight, appearance, visiondeeperעָמֹ֖ק (‘ā·mōq)Adjective - masculine singularStrong's 6013: Deepthanמִן־ (min-)PrepositionStrong's 4480: A part of, from, out ofthe skin,הָע֑וֹר (hā·‘ō·wr)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5785: Skin, hide, leatherthe priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ן (hak·kō·hên)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3548: Priestis to pronounce him clean.וְטִהַ֤ר (wə·ṭi·har)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2891: To be clean or pureHe must washוְכִבֶּ֥ס (wə·ḵib·bes)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3526: To trample, to washhis clothes,בְּגָדָ֖יו (bə·ḡā·ḏāw)Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 899: A covering, clothing, treachery, pillageand he will be clean.וְטָהֵֽר׃ (wə·ṭā·hêr)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2891: To be clean or pureJump to PreviousAppearance Clean Clothes Clothing Deep Deeper Examine Garments Hasn't Increased Itch Priest Pronounce Pronounced Scale Scall Seem Seventh Sight Skin Spread Thereof Wash Washed
