Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(4) Every bed, whereon he lieth.--So severely did the canonical law deal with these cases that they interpreted the defilement communicated to the bed, and hence also to his seat and saddle, by the patient in five different ways: by standing, sitting, lying, hanging, or leaning on it. The patient's polluting power is so great that even if the bed, seat, or saddle is under a stone, he defiles it through the stone by any of these actions. If he stood upon two beds, placing one foot upon each, he defiled both.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewAnyכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everybedהַמִּשְׁכָּ֗ב (ham·miš·kāḇ)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 4904: Place of lying, a couch, act of lyingonעָלָ֛יו (‘ā·lāw)Preposition | third person masculine singularStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstwhichאֲשֶׁ֨ר (’ă·šer)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thatthe man with the dischargeהַזָּ֖ב (haz·zāḇ)Article | Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine singularStrong's 2100: To flow freely, to have a, flux, to waste away, to overflowliesיִשְׁכַּ֥ב (yiš·kaḇ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 7901: To lie downwill be unclean,יִטְמָ֑א (yiṭ·mā)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanand anyוְכָֽל־ (wə·ḵāl)Conjunctive waw | Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyfurnitureהַכְּלִ֛י (hak·kə·lî)Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3627: Something prepared, any apparatusonעָלָ֖יו (‘ā·lāw)Preposition | third person masculine singularStrong's 5921: Above, over, upon, againstwhichאֲשֶׁר־ (’ă·šer-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thathe sitsיֵשֵׁ֥ב (yê·šêḇ)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 3427: To sit down, to dwell, to remain, to settle, to marrywill be unclean.יִטְמָֽא׃ (yiṭ·mā)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 2930: To be or become uncleanJump to PreviousBed Discharge Flux Issue Lies Object Resting Seated Sits Sitteth Unclean Vessel Whereon
