Ellicott's Commentary
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(20) But whatsoever hath a blemish.--Better. whatsoever hath, &c, without the "but," which is not in the original, and is not wanted. The general rule is here repeated as an introduction to the cases which are immediately to be specified. It will be seen that only quadrupeds are given and that fowls are not alluded to, because when people brought birds the Law did not require any distinction to be made between male and female, and during the second Temple no blemish disqualified a bird except the entire absence of a limb.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewYou must notלֹ֣א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nopresentתַקְרִ֑יבוּ (ṯaq·rî·ḇū)Verb - Hifil - Imperfect - second person masculine pluralStrong's 7126: To come near, approachanythingכֹּ֛ל (kōl)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everywithאֲשֶׁר־ (’ă·šer-)Pronoun - relativeStrong's 834: Who, which, what, that, when, where, how, because, in order thata defect,מ֖וּם (mūm)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3971: To stain, a blemishbecauseכִּי־ (kî-)ConjunctionStrong's 3588: A relative conjunctionit will notלֹ֥א (lō)Adverb - Negative particleStrong's 3808: Not, nobeיִהְיֶ֥ה (yih·yeh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 1961: To fall out, come to pass, become, beaccepted on your behalf.לְרָצ֖וֹן (lə·rā·ṣō·wn)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 7522: Goodwill, favor, acceptance, willJump to PreviousAcceptable Accepted Behalf Blemish Defect Mark Offer Pleasing Present Whatsoever
