Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(22) And the priest of his sons.--That is, any one of his descendants who succeeds to the high priesthood is to do the same in all times to come, since it is a statute to last as long as the priesthood continues. It shall be wholly burnt.--Unlike the ordinary meat offerings brought by the laity, which, with the exception of a handful, was the perquisite of the officiating priest (see Leviticus 2:2-3), the high priest could not eat of this mincha because he presented it himself, since it would be unseemly both to offer it to God and at the same time eat it himself. Nor was an ordinary priest allowed to eat it, because he was subordinate in rank to the officiating high priest.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewThe priest,וְהַכֹּהֵ֨ן (wə·hak·kō·hên)Conjunctive waw, Article | Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3548: Priestwho is one of Aaron’s sonsמִבָּנָ֖יו (mib·bā·nāw)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 1121: A sonand will be anointedהַמָּשִׁ֧יחַ (ham·mā·šî·aḥ)Article | Adjective - masculine singularStrong's 4899: Anointed, a consecrated person, the Messiahto take his place,תַּחְתָּ֛יו (taḥ·tāw)Preposition | third person masculine singularStrong's 8478: The bottom, below, in lieu ofis to prepare it.יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה (ya·‘ă·śeh)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person masculine singularStrong's 6213: To do, makeAs a permanentעוֹלָ֕ם (‘ō·w·lām)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 5769: Concealed, eternity, frequentatively, alwaysportionחָק־ (ḥāq-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 2706: Something prescribed or owed, a statutefor the LORD,לַיהוָ֖ה (Yah·weh)Preposition-l | Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 3068: LORD -- the proper name of the God of Israelit must be completelyכָּלִ֥יל (kā·lîl)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 3632: Complete, the whole, as, fullyburned.תָּקְטָֽר׃ (tā·qə·ṭār)Verb - Hofal - Imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 6999: To smoke, turn into fragrance by fireJump to PreviousAaron's Anointed Burned Burnt Completely Decreed Due Entirely Forever Lord's Offer Offered Offering Order Ordinance Permanent Prepare Priest Regular Share Smoke Statute Stead Succeed Whole Wholly
