Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(27) That soul shall be cut off.--According to the law which obtained during the second Temple, the punishment of excision was only inflicted for eating the life-blood (see Leviticus 17:11), that is, the blood in which the life of the animal resides, and the loss of which causes death. For eating the blood found in the limbs, or in any internal portion of the body, a sin offering had to be brought, and the offender was beaten with stripes.Parallel Commentaries ...HebrewIf anyoneכָּל־ (kāl-)Noun - masculine singular constructStrong's 3605: The whole, all, any, everyeatsתֹּאכַ֣ל (tō·ḵal)Verb - Qal - Imperfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 398: To eatblood,דָּ֑ם (dām)Noun - masculine singularStrong's 1818: Blood, of man, an animal, the juice of the grape, bloodshedthatהַהִ֖וא (ha·hi·w)Article | Pronoun - third person feminine singularStrong's 1931: He, self, the same, this, that, as, arepersonהַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ (han·ne·p̄eš)Article | Noun - feminine singularStrong's 5315: A soul, living being, life, self, person, desire, passion, appetite, emotion must be cut offוְנִכְרְתָ֛ה (wə·niḵ·rə·ṯāh)Conjunctive waw | Verb - Nifal - Conjunctive perfect - third person feminine singularStrong's 3772: To cut, to destroy, consume, to covenantfrom his people.’”מֵֽעַמֶּֽיהָ׃ (mê·‘am·me·hā)Preposition-m | Noun - masculine plural construct | third person feminine singularStrong's 5971: A people, a tribe, troops, attendants, a flockJump to PreviousBlood Cut Eateth Eats Food Manner Peoples Soul Whatever Whatsoever
