Ellicott's Commentary

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(12) Thou, O Solomon . . .--i.e., "Let Solomon keep and enjoy his possessions (his harem of mercenary beauties), which cost so much to obtain and keep; I am happier in the secure love of my one true wife." The mention of "two hundred to the keepers of the fruit" seems added to show the cost of a polygamous establishment on a great scale.Parallel Commentaries ...Hebrew[But] my own vineyardכָּרְמִ֥י‪‬‪‬‪‬ (kar·mî)Noun - masculine singular construct | first person common singularStrong's 3754: A garden, vineyardis mine to give;לְפָנָ֑י (lə·p̄ā·nāy)Preposition-l | Noun - masculine plural construct | first person common singularStrong's 6440: The facethe thousand [shekels]הָאֶ֤לֶף (hā·’e·lep̄)Article | Number - masculine singularStrong's 505: A thousandare for you,לְךָ֙ (lə·ḵā)Preposition | second person masculine singularStrong's Hebrew O Solomon,שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה (šə·lō·mōh)Noun - proper - masculine singularStrong's 8010: Solomon -- David's son and successor to his throneand two hundredוּמָאתַ֖יִם (ū·mā·ṯa·yim)Conjunctive waw | Number - fdStrong's 3967: A hundredare for those who tendלְנֹטְרִ֥ים (lə·nō·ṭə·rîm)Preposition-l | Verb - Qal - Participle - masculine pluralStrong's 5201: To guard, to cherishits fruit.פִּרְיֽוֹ׃ (pir·yōw)Noun - masculine singular construct | third person masculine singularStrong's 6529: FruitJump to PreviousCare Disposal Dweller Fruit Gardens Hundred Keepers Keeping Lover Shekels Silver-Pieces Solomon Tend Thereof Thousand Vine-Garden Vineyard
